The Toyota bZ4X, Toyota's flagship electric vehicle, has undergone a major upgrade to become more appealing to consumers. The new version of the Toyota bZ4X not only features an improved design but also significant performance upgrades, especially in the European market. These changes promise a better driving experience, faster charging technology, and a more powerful engine.
What's New in the 2025 Toyota bZ4X?
Since its launch in 2023, the Toyota bZ4X has received mixed feedback from the market. To address this, Toyota has made several key changes, including:
- Increased engine power: The new all-wheel-drive version can produce up to 337 horsepower, while the current U.S. version only reaches 215 horsepower.
- Battery upgrades: The European version will offer two battery options with capacities of 51.9 kWh and 65.8 kWh, significantly different from the current U.S. version.
- Improved charging system: Level 2 AC charging now offers up to 22 kW, much faster than the previous 6.6 kW charger.
- New design: Features a 14-inch touchscreen, a more modern central control panel, and improved sound insulation.
2025 Toyota bZ4X: More Powerful Engine
The new Toyota bZ4X will be equipped with an electric motor using silicon carbide semiconductor technology, optimizing performance and significantly increasing power:
- FWD (front-wheel-drive) version: Can generate 164 or 211 horsepower, depending on battery capacity.
- AWD (all-wheel-drive) version: Power increases to 337 horsepower, much higher than the 215-horsepower version currently available in the U.S.
These improvements make the bZ4X more competitive with other electric SUVs on the market, offering a sportier and more powerful driving experience.

One of the most notable upgrades in the 2025 Toyota bZ4X is its significantly improved battery system. Instead of the two nearly identical battery packs in the previous version (63.4 kWh and 65.5 kWh), Toyota has refined them to create a clearer distinction:
- Smaller battery: Has an estimated usable capacity of 51.9 kWh, suitable for those who need an EV with a moderate driving range.
- Larger battery: Offers 65.8 kWh capacity, providing an extended driving range.
- Faster charging: Toyota has upgraded the Level 2 AC charger from 6.6 kW to 11 kW or even 22 kW, significantly reducing home charging time.
- DC fast charging: Remains at a maximum of 150 kW but now includes a battery conditioning system to improve charging speed in cold weather.
Design and Interior Enhancements

In addition to performance upgrades, the 2025 Toyota bZ4X also receives refinements in design:
- Larger touchscreen: Increased from 12.3 inches to 14 inches for easier operation.
- Modernized central control panel: Includes two wireless charging areas for added convenience.
- Improved noise insulation: Ensures a quieter cabin, enhancing the overall driving experience.
- When Will the New Version Be Available?
As of now, Toyota has not officially announced when the updated bZ4X will be available in the U.S. However, in Europe, the upgraded version is expected to go on sale in the coming months.
With its powerful upgrades in performance, battery technology, and design, the 2025 Toyota bZ4X promises to be a much more attractive option in the EV segment. If Toyota applies these changes globally, the bZ4X could become one of the most notable electric SUVs in the upcoming year.
